Global Partners Gather to Discuss the Future of Skills Development

From May 8th to 10th, 2024, the Strategic Development Committee Opt-in Meeting of WorldSkills Competition (WSC) was held in Shanghai, China. Over 60 representatives, including members of the Board, the International Secretariat, and global partners of WorldSkills International (WSI), gathered to discuss the future development direction of the WorldSkills Competition, the establishment of global skills standards, and the profound impact of skills on the global economy and society.

This meeting marked a significant event for the WorldSkills Strategic Development Committee, aiming to formulate a clear strategic blueprint for skills development over the next decade. During the meeting, representatives from various countries actively engaged in discussions and exchanged ideas. The meeting encouraged participants to review our strategies to ensure we are prepared to meet the challenges facing economies, industries, and governments in the coming decade.

WSI has always been committed to promoting the establishment and dissemination of global skill standards, fostering high-level skill talent across various industries. This meeting particularly focused on how to address the challenges posed by global economic shifts, industry changes, and technological advancements over the next ten years. Representatives from different countries unanimously agreed that the WSC is not only a stage for showcasing skills but also a vital engine for driving global skills development.

Our CEO, Cathy Wang, and Jennifer Huang, the Secretary-General of the Global Training Center, were invited to attend this meeting and delivered important speeches. In her speech, Cathy Wang stated, “Not only are governments highly focused on cultivating skilled talent, but we enterprises are also actively involved, contributing to vocational education and skills training.” She emphasized that enterprises play a crucial role in the cultivation of skilled talent, and through close collaboration between enterprises and educational institutions, industry needs can be better met, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of skilled workers.


Jennifer Huang remarked that the establishment and promotion of global skill standards are essential tasks of WSI. Through the platform provided by the WSC, skilled professionals from various countries can showcase their abilities on the international stage, fostering skill exchange and cooperation. She called on all parties to strengthen collaboration, jointly elevate global skill levels, and prepare to meet future challenges.

This Strategic Development Committee meeting laid the foundation for the future development of WSI. Through this meeting, WSI will further clarify its future strategic direction and continue to drive the enhancement and application of global skill standards. The successful convening of this meeting has not only injected new momentum into the future development of the WSC but also provided clear guidance for the cultivation and development of global skilled talent.
