From December 4th to 6th, 2024, the Technical Review and Future Development Seminar of the Optoelectronic Technology Skill Competition in the 47th WorldSkills Competition was successfully held in Liukeng Ancient Village, Le’an County, Jiangxi Province, China. The seminar gathered experts, leaders from the government, industry, and the education sector, as well as outstanding competitors from the WorldSkills Competitions, to discuss the latest developments and future innovations in optoelectronic technology.
High Hopes for Optoelectronic Technology
During the opening ceremony, leaders from Le'an County, the Jiangxi Provincial Employment and Entrepreneurship Service Center, and experts online from the WorldSkills Austria, Mexico, Brazil, Barbados, etc., delivered keynote speeches offline and online. The leaders and experts highlighted the importance of optoelectronic technology in China and World’s economic transformation and industrial upgrading, particularly in the electronic technology sector. The application of optoelectronic technology is expected to play a pivotal role in driving the economic development.
Teacher Training Exchange for Optoelectronic Technology Projects
The seminar held an exchange session on “The Urgent Need for Talent in the Optoelectronic Industry and the Cultivation of Multidisciplinary Technical Skills,” as well as a discussion on “Dual-Teacher Training for Optoelectronic Technology Project." Several experts shared their experiences in teacher training, discussing how improving the quality of teaching staff can better meet the fast-growing demands of the optoelectronic technology field.
Technical Review and Results Sharing of the Optoelectronic Technology Skill Competition
During the seminar, Zhou Yuxi, Head of the China Technical Guidance Expert Group for the Optoelectronic Technology Project, presented the Technical Review of the Optoelectronic Technology Project at the 47th WorldSkills Competition. This session offered a comprehensive review of the technical development of the project in China.
Following that, Chen Jun'an, the gold medalist of the 47th WorldSkills Competition Optoelectronic Technology Project, shared his journey of preparation and participation, illustrating how skills training helped him transition from a student to an industry educator. He also inspired more young people to pursue excellence through skill learning.
Additionally, Chen Jun'an's coach, Shen Xiaoxia (also the teacher of Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology), and Li Xiaosong, the gold medalist of 46th WorldSkills Competition (also a teacher from Chongqing Polytechnic University of Electronic Technology), shared valuable insights into athlete training, technical support, and coaching methods. Their experiences not only contributed to competitors’ success on the global stage but also provided practical teaching references for the vocational education field.
Training Base Development and Competitor Cultivation
The seminar also focused on competitor training and the development of training bases for the optoelectronic technology project. Instructors from Chongqing Polytechnic University of Electronic Technology, Yuxi Technician College, and Tianjin Electronic Information Technician College shared their experiences in training, offering insights into how they provide top-tier technical support and hands-on training to help candidates excel in the WorldSkills Competition.

At the end of the seminar, Secretary-General Jennifer Huang from the Global Training Center and Zhou Yuxi shared the current status of international standards in optoelectronic technology and the future trends of the industry. At the seminar on December 6, Professor Zhou Wei also focused on sharing how to apply optoelectronic technology competition to vocational education and improve the teaching quality of higher vocational colleges. He believes that teaching content should be effectively integrated with skill competitions and industry needs. At the conference, he discussed with other experts how the cultivation of knowledge and skills and the application of courses can be more conducive to the improvement of students’ comprehensive literacy.
In addition, he emphasized that the integration of competitions and courses requires analysis of competition content, skill requirements and evaluation criteria, modularization of courses, integration of competition skills points into practical projects, and teaching implementation including theory, practice, simulation competitions, as well as improvement of evaluation systems and course optimization.
Through competition-course cooperation, colleges and universities can better cultivate high-quality talents that meet the needs of skill competitions and industry, and promote the deep integration of vocational education and industrial development.

36 vocational college representatives shared the status of optoelectronic technology programs at their institutions, the quality of teaching, competition performance, and employment outcomes of graduates. These colleges are dedicated to enhancing the teaching quality of optoelectronic technology programs, cultivating students’ practical skills through competitions and hands-on activities, ensuring that students are highly competitive in the industry.
17 enterprises representatives discussed the latest developments in the optoelectronic technology sector and their talent needs. They emphasized the urgency of selecting outstanding talent from vocational colleges and expressed hope for continued collaboration to cultivate versatile, highly skilled professionals who meet market demands.
The exchange strengthens the deep cooperation between the industry and education sectors.

Chinese experts from the Optoelectronic Technology Project and Gold Medalists of WorldSkills Competition visited the vocational schools and conducted an exchange seminar on the topic of “Cultivating High-Quality Modern Industrial Workers.” Participants shared experiences and challenges in the field of optoelectronic technology, highlighting the importance of skilled talent development in driving modern industry growth.
