VCOM Joins WorldSkills Vision 2035 Discussions

In its 75th anniversary year, WorldSkills International has been running a series of Strategic Development Committee Opt-in meetings, bringing together Members and Global Partners to co-create Vision 2035—a roadmap that will guide the global skills movement into the next decade.

The WorldSkills community came together in Vienna, Austria (1–3 July) and Hong Kong, China (23–25 July) for face-to-face workshops hosted by SkillsAustria and WorldSkills Hong Kong. More than 55 Members and Global Partners, alongside many virtual participants, engaged in discussions on brand development, impact measurement, future competitions, and governance—ensuring diverse perspectives were represented in shaping the future of skills.

David Hoey, CEO of WorldSkills International, emphasized that the decisions made through these discussions will serve as the “blueprint for tomorrow,” particularly in an era of rapid technological change and global uncertainty. He underlined that skills remain a powerful unifying force that can drive both youth empowerment and economic growth.

Francis Hourant, President of WorldSkills, opened the meetings by calling on the community to think beyond national strategies and traditional competitions, urging participants to collaborate, innovate, and dream as a truly global community.

Representing VCOM Education, CEO Cathy Wang joined delegates in Hong Kong to contribute to the discussions. As a WorldSkills Global Industry Partner, VCOM has continuously supported four editions of the WorldSkills Competition by providing facilities and technology for multiple skill areas, including ICT Network Infrastructure, Optoelectronic Technology, Electronics, Health and Social Care, and Electrical Installations. Looking ahead to the 48th WorldSkills Competition, VCOM will also provide equipment and expertise for the new skill area Intelligent Security Technology, a competition proposed by VCOM that will be introduced for the first time in WorldSkills Shanghai 2026.

For VCOM, this participation in the Conference reflects a deep commitment to advancing global vocational education. By supporting WorldSkills competitions and working with educators and industry partners, VCOM seeks to help young people gain practical expertise, inspire future careers, and foster innovation across industries. The Strategic Development Committee meetings further reinforced the shared mission of the WorldSkills community: to prepare the next generation with the skills needed to thrive in an evolving global economy.
