VCOM Leads Teacher Training in Jamaica, Empowering Local Skills Development

Kingston, Jamaica, August 11-15, 2025, Guangdong VCOM Education Technology Co., Ltd. successfully delivered a specialized teacher training program in Optoelectronic Technology and Electronics in Jamaica, marking a significant step in advancing the nation’s vocational education and skills development.
The training, jointly carried out by VCOM’s senior technical engineer together with the HEART/NSTA Trust team and Skill Competition Manager at WorldSkills, was developed in line with the WorldSkills Competition framework and WorldSkills Occupation Standards. A key focus was to support Jamaican trainees as they prepare for the upcoming WorldSkills Competition, with targeted sessions in Optoelectronic Technology and Electronics. The program emphasized practical exercises, technical accuracy, and problem-solving approaches that reflect international benchmarks.
Beyond competition preparation, the sessions also provided opportunities for Jamaican educators to engage with advanced teaching methods and explore new applications of technology. This exchange of expertise helps local teachers enrich their classroom practices and further align training content with global skills standards. Together, these efforts contribute to Jamaica’s broader vision of strengthening vocational education and preparing young people for careers in emerging industries.

Global Training Centre Jamaica Branch Officially Launched
In parallel with the training, the Global Training Centre Jamaica Branch was officially inaugurated at HEART/NSTA Trust. The new branch will serve as a platform for skills training, giving Jamaican youth access to programs aligned with WorldSkills Occupation Standards while also supporting local employment, advancing industrial development, and contributing to Jamaica’s overall economic growth.

At the ceremony, Professor Lloyd Waller, Chairman of HEART/NSTA Trust, highlighted that the Branch is not only a continuation of Jamaica’s long-standing efforts in skills development but also a platform to drive economic transformation. He expressed appreciation for VCOM’s contribution in bringing advanced technologies and international training practices to Jamaica.
Dr. Taneisha Ingleton, CEO of HEART/NSTA Trust and Official Delegate of WorldSkills Jamaica, stressed that the Centre will enable Jamaican youth to receive training that meets global benchmarks, while also strengthening collaboration across the Caribbean. She noted that VCOM’s involvement provides valuable expertise that supports both learners and educators.
David Hoey, President of WorldSkills International, congratulated Jamaica on the launch, praising the partnership between HEART/NSTA Trust and VCOM. He emphasized that the initiative reflects WorldSkills’ mission of empowering youth and promoting social progress through skills.
